Hacienda Baru
Hacienda Barú National Wildlife Refuge
It have been protected for 20 years. Recently, their conservation efforts were rewarded by being formally declared a National Wildlife Refuge by the President of Costa Rica. At present, their ecological restoration efforts involve connecting most of the parcels of lowland forest by allowing approximately 100 acres of pasture to regenerate into a forest corridor. Hacienda Barú consists of primary and secondary very humid tropical rainforest, mangroves, river and beach habitats. Sharing the natural riches with guests allows them to conserve it. They welcome scientific researchers dedicated to fields studies within the scope of the Hacienda.
Excellent naturalist guides will help you discover the wonders of the tropical rainforest, such as leaf cutter ants and sleepy sloths
Fodor's.com Review:
The Hacienda Barú nature reserve is a leader in both ecotourism and conservation, with a turtle protection project and nature education program in the local school. The birdwatching is spectacular, with excellent guides. You can stay at the cabins or just come for the day to walk the forest and mangrove trails, zip through the canopy on cables, or climb a tree or stake out birds on an observation platform.
