Centro Neotropico Sarapiquis
The Centro Neotrópico Sarapiquis has been designed and developed as an exclusive eco-model-project in Costa Rica. The Landscape Foundation Belgium initiated in 1997 the centro Neotropico Sarapiquis as the first part of their 'Costa Rica Natura Magistra' project. Located on a high bluff fronting the Sarapiquí River, this complex is the most unique project in the Sarapiquí region. The deluxe rooms are housed in three large, round buildings, or palenques. Based on the traditional pre-Columbian constructions of the area, each of the three palenques has a towering thatch roof rising some 18m (59 ft.). All rooms are comfortable and spacious although a little dark, and each has a door leading out to the shared veranda that encircles the building. The 12 standard rooms are housed in the main lodge building, are somewhat smaller and less luxurious, and lack the veranda. Smoking is permitted only in the bar and restaurant. Frommers.com Review

The hotel has several interesting attractions, including a small natural-history museum, an on-site excavation of a pre-Columbian graveyard, and a well-marked botanical garden. Just across the river lies the 300-hectare (741-acre) Tirimbina Rainforest Center, with a small network of trails and several impressive suspension bridges, both over the river and through the forest canopy. Tours of the museum and reserve cost extra and are open to guests at other hotels.
